Questions to Ask
Working from home can be an attractive option for many people. However there can be a lot to think about before you start to buy your office equipment and register as self employed.
Try to answer the questions listed below, and then read on for some advice as to whether it’s a good solution for you.
1 – How often would you say you usually stay late at work?
A – Regularly.
B – Only to meet a deadline.
C – Never.
2 – Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
A – No; I don’t like relying on other people.
B – Yes; however I also enjoy working independently.
C – Yes; it means I get to pass tasks onto others.
3 – How would you say you plan your daily tasks?
A – I write out a schedule and I stick to it.
B – I list all the most important tasks; I then hope to remember the rest.
C – I tackle jobs as they come up.
4 – What would you say you do when faced with many projects at once?
A – Get on with the most important ones first.
B – Choose the most interesting jobs and start with them first.
C – Start several tasks and continue with the easiest one.
5 – How organised would you say you work area?
A – Very.
B – Fairly.
C – Not at all.
6 – How do you feel about your boss?
A – They interfere at times.
B – A good working relationship.
C – I rely on their guidance.
7 – How would you describe your relationship with your work colleagues?
A – I keep myself to myself.
B – It’s professional and friendly.
C – I enjoy the office environment.
8 – How do you usually react to unexpected difficulties in your workplace?
A – I try to deal with the problem from the source outwards.
B – I usually try to deal with the problem using solutions from the past.
C – I don’t feel I am a problem solver.
9 – How do you describe delegation?
A – Laziness.
B – Important process.
C – A useful tool.

9 – 14 – In many ways you are suited to working from home. It seems the only problem you may face is you would find it hard to switch off.
15 – 22 – It seems you have a balanced attitude to working from home. The only issue may be that you may need some help prioritising your tasks when on your own.
23 – 27 – You thrive on working with others. It is worth thinking very carefully about the transition to working from home. You may need to work hard to motivate yourself. You may also feel isolated.
