INSTRUCTIONS
-
For the base of the volcano take the small thicker piece of cardboard card and draw round a small plate. Cut out.
-
Take the larger piece of thin card and draw round a large dinner plate. Cut out.
-
Take the larger circle and cut a line all the way to the centre. In the centre draw round the end of a toilet roll tube, then cut out. You will now have a circle shape with a small circle cut out of the middle with a slit up to the centre.
-
Curl this circle into a cone shape and glue or tape together.
-
Take the toilet roll tube and tape it upright to the inside of the cone. Then place the cone on the base.(if you wish to pad the volcano out a bit you can push rolled up newspaper inside the cone around the toilet roll tube before you put it on the base).
-
Turn the cone upside down and tape or glue to base.
-
Tear your newspaper up into strips ready for the paper Mache.(you must do this before you make the Mache otherwise the Mache will start to set).
-
Next comes the paper Mache. To make this you will need to mix 2 cups of flour with one cup of water and add half a tablespoon of salt. Mix all this up until the Mache is creamy but not too thick.
-
When all the above is ready you can start to paste on your newspaper to your volcano, you can do this using your hands or if you would prefer, a paintbrush. Make sure you get a good covering all over the volcano, and try to make sure it’s not all smooth and that there are some raised and bumpy areas to add to the effect when it’s dry and painted.
-
Leave to dry. If you want it to dry quickly leave it somewhere warm.
-
When its dry you can paint it for the finished effect.
